BREAKING HER SILENCE  Vice President Sara Duterte on Friday faces the media for the first time since being impeached by the House of Representatives. But she declined to comment on the charges directly—with her lawyers yet to brief her—and at times flatly refused to answer questions. —LYN RILLON

Hi there. PDP-Laban banking on May polls to save Sara

Or, as the party headed by impeached VP Sara Duterte's father put it in a statement, "Choose wisely... the more allies she has in the Senate, the better for our country." Will the Filipino electorate bite?

The VP insists she made no threat to "assassinate" the President — despite the video where she said she had contracted somebody to kill Marcos, the first lady, and the House Speaker if any harm befell her.

Lahar alert: Rains loosened ash deposited along the slopes of Mt. Kanlaon,  triggering lahar flows in the river that runs through two towns in Negros Occidental, and an alert notice from local authorities.

Facing sanctions slapped by Donald Trump on its people working on US probes or on American allies like Israel, the International Criminal Court denounced the sanctions and urged its 125 members to "stand united."

How strong is Trump's standing? He "is the second-least popular of all presidents in the first week in office, with 49.8 percent approval and 42.8 percent disapproval, or net +7.0," writes pollster Mahar Mangahas in Opinion.
